The CADDIES Project defines Community Development as a process owned by residents in the area. As an outside party we can assist in the initial work and provide support during the process but the development of the chosen area and its transformation has to be identified and formulated by the residents themselves. Crucial to the realisation of the desired improvements is the commitment and sense of responsibility the residents have for their area.
Therefore, it is impossible to exactly define beforehand the concept of community development. It could be defined as the physical improvement of a particular area but it might also be about measures to strengthen the social environment or even the development of different aspects relating to services. The main objective of the CADDIES Project is to create conditions and develop tools for local commitment within a community and thereby support the residents in their endeavour to take responsibility for the development and future of their areas.
